Courtyard Design & Landscape Renovation

Project Statement

The landscape renovation of this Hope Valley residence in Durham began with the construction of a carport on the property. The space between the house and the carport presented an exciting opportunity for a courtyard design and an updated hardscape and landscape throughout.

The Lacys expressed an interest in the use of color, the incorporation of soft, informal plant material, and a hardscape of brick, stone and gravel that complimented the brick construction of their home and carport. The final product was a colorful courtyard space that served a circulation function as well as provided an outdoor dining and entertaining retreat.
